The one sentence that got us recommended first by ChatGPT

When we asked ChatGPT for the best tool in our category, Arenza wasn't mentioned. Our scans showed the only Arenza page AI cited for questions about our category was our Shopify App Store listing, so we rewrote its first sentence. Days later, one ChatGPT answer listed us first.

This is a small, real story from our own company, and the lesson applies to any Shopify store.

What happened

When we asked ChatGPT for the best tool in our category ("best aeo/geo tool for shopify", where "aeo/geo" means ways of showing up in AI answers), Arenza wasn't mentioned.

When we checked our own scans in late September, the only Arenza page AI answers cited for questions about our category wasn't our website. It was our Shopify App Store listing.

So we rewrote the first sentence of the listing's description to answer the question merchants ask AI directly:

> "Arenza is a GEO/AEO optimization app for Shopify stores."

Days later, we asked ChatGPT "best aeo/geo tool for shopify". It put Arenza first, with the label "Best integrated Shopify workflow."

What it does and doesn't prove

AI answers change every day. Ask the same question tomorrow, in a different country or with slightly different words, and the answer may differ. So this is one answer on one day, not a permanent ranking, and we can't promise the same for anyone else.

What it does show: the page AI trusts about you might not be the one you think, and a small, precise change on that page can matter.

How to apply this to your store

1. Find out which pages AI reads about you

Ask ChatGPT and Google's AI Mode the questions your buyers ask ("best [product] for [use] under [price]") and look at the sources each answer cites. The cited pages are often not the homepage. They can be marketplace listings, review sites, comparison articles or a single product page. Our guide on where ChatGPT gets its information about your store explains the usual sources.

2. Make the first sentence answer the question

On the page AI cites, the first sentence should state plainly what the product is and who it's for, using the words a buyer would use. "Waterproof cycling jacket for commuters, under $150" answers a question. "Experience the ultimate in performance outerwear" doesn't.

3. Back it up below the first sentence

The rest of the page should support the claim with specifics: materials, sizes, use cases, reviews, shipping and returns. AI shopping assistants choose from the product information they can find and read. One good sentence gets attention; the details make it credible.

4. Check again, more than once

Because answers vary, check the same questions over several days and on more than one assistant before you draw conclusions.

Where Arenza fits

The Arenza Shopify app checks what ChatGPT and Google AI Mode say for your buyers' questions, shows which other brands they recommend, and drafts product-page fixes you approve. Inside the app, ARC, Arenza's AI agent, can show which websites AI answers cite most for your category, and which of your own pages they cite, based on Arenza's own scans.
